Common Reasons Why Your Car AC Does Not Turn On

Have you ever turned on your car AC only to be disappointed on a scorching hot day? You are not alone. Insufficient air cooling – among several other things – indicates that there is something not right with your vehicle’s AC system.

A vehicle’s air conditioning unit has three parts. There is an ac compressor, an ac condenser, and an evaporator. For the system to function optimally, every part should be maintained and serviced regularly.

Indicators of a Failing AC Compressor

Compressors usually last as long as the life of a vehicle, around 15 years. Having your vehicle regularly checked and serviced can help your car, along with the ac, to perform efficiently.

Among the ways that you may be able to tell that there is something wrong with the ac compressor are:

  • Leakages – They indicate that the refrigerant is escaping the system somewhere through the gaskets, seals, hoses, and O-rings. Refrigerants also help to keep everything lubricated, and without enough of it, the ac cycle does not happen. It can damage the ac compressor and other parts of the system as well.

  • Weird sounds or noises – There can be several reasons. It can signify that the internal parts of the compressor are failing or a belt pulley or clutch has seized.

  • Air coming out of the vents is warm – It may be due to either a failing component or there is a lack of refrigerant, so the ac compressor is unable to circulate enough of the refrigerant to keep things running smoothly.

  • Airflow is very poor – It signals there is not enough refrigerant, a clogged hose, or the ac condenser is damaged or broken.

  • The “check engine” indicator blinks – When the “check engine” indicator is blinking on the dashboard of your vehicle, it means that there is something seriously wrong. The ECU can detect faulty signals, which may result in delivering incorrect voltage. Common reasons for the failure are as follows:

  • Deterioration or corrosion

  • Not enough lubrication on parts of the compressor

  • Leakage

  • Belts are defective or broken

  • Normal wear and tear

For you to enjoy a comfortable and cool drive, your car AC needs to be performing at its best. The system should be regularly checked so that any problem may be detected and fixed early.
